“Sometimes we’re fractured by the choices we make; sometimes we’re shattered by things we would never have chosen. But our brokenness is also the source of our common humanity, the basis for our shared search for comfort, meaning, and healing. Our shared vulnerability and imperfection nurtures and sustains our capacity for compassion.”
-Bryan Stevenson
Humanity with regard to basic understanding refers to qualities that make us a human being. These features make us superior from other races and lay down the difference among all. It is the ability to be empathetic, have the privilege to love, be compassionate, creative and many more. It means caring for the people around us and helping others whenever possible. It is necessary as it helps us forget our selfish interests at times when others need our help. Without humanity the world would be a mad man’s abode and not the kind we have today.
Crisis refers to an uncertain time of great danger and difficulty. It is any incident or period that leads to an unstable and dangerous scenario that affects an individual, a group, or society as a whole. Crises are negative changes in human or environmental situations that occur suddenly and with little or no warning. In a broader sense, a crisis is a trial period for an emergency. A crisis can be in various aspects ranging from inner conflicts to world level. Here are some important ones at the world level that affect mostly everyone Political crisis, Economic crisis, Environmental crisis and International crisis. An unstable periodic orbit inside the basin of attraction gets touched by the chaotic attractor
when the control parameter of a chaotic system is changed, causing the attractor to suddenly expand. In a chaotic system, this event is known as an interior crisis.
People In Need refers to the population that are affected due to the crisis. These are the aggrieved that need our help. Anyone can be in need. These circumstances are not foreseen but are often a result of our activities.
Humanity is a mankind’s driving force. We ought to be considerate but we make mistakes that are of grave nature. Humanity is a great way of connecting and realising but is it enough? Well, nothing is ever enough but what matters is how hard we are trying to make things better. So humanity alone can never be enough to handle a crisis and serve people in need because no matter how hard we try everyone will never be on the same side. In order to prove superiority the quest leads to crisis and suffering.
Humankind isn’t sufficient for individuals to maintain a strategic distance from hurting others, since in spite of the fact that there may be kindness and compassionate feelings in a human being, the humankind still does not rise above the desires of the intellect and the wants of the inner self which causes us to make a difference between us and others. The way for us to dodge hurting others in its extreme investigation is to realize that others are not diverse from us that we are all one Divine Soul. The minute there’s this non-duality, the realization that we are all signs of God, there would be a total cessation to hurting others since others are not others, they are a part of us.
The profound emergency, other than Coronavirus, environmental change, and others, lies in the mentalities and presumptions which decide our standards and guidelines. Until we can move our reasoning past advancement, our social and institutional frameworks will always lack answers to worldwide difficulties. The frameworks directing humankind were conceived in view of a presumption that one’s benefit should essentially come to the detriment of another current conditions and difficulties were not, and couldn’t be, imagined.
The emphasis placed on financial or economic profit as a measure of success is a clear illustration of this, which has resulted in the prioritization of some industries over others, despite their value. This model of existence has demonstrated its obsolescence, despite the best intentions. Yet we continue to insist on it. This materialistic view is moulding worldwide strategies that build up the manner in which work is esteemed. Healthcare, education, social work, and domestic work, among other fields, suffer greatly from this. Strategy needs and quarterly procuring objectives don’t line up with humankind’s wellbeing. We are all susceptible to numerous shocks as a result of this flawed assumption. We are more aware than ever before of the limitations of such an approach as inequality grows in every region of the world.
Humanity mostly saves us from wrong doings . It urges us to support the right thing but many times because of undue influence or personal problems we have to surpass our emotions because only the fittest survives. Humanity alone is not enough to handle crisis and serve people in need, we need much more than a mere feeling, we need strength and resources to act on our feelings. No matter how strong and deeply instilled compassion may be, its mere existence cannot end suffering, we have to have the right attributes. This does not mean that we sit back and just watch, we must do everything at our level to help and aid the aggrieved. No matter what, we can not be excused just because of the mere lack of resources. We must do everything in our capacity because what’s happening with others, could happen with anyone. Only humanity cannot end crisis but it is the driving force for all the people to come together and work towards ending misery and crisis. It urges people to take the first step in the direction to end crisis and serve others. It makes people realise the value of fellowship and that one has to go hand in hand with others.
“You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.”
-Mahatma Gandhi
