From the very early time all over the world women were subject to bein the household and look after only home and child care. They were not allowed to go outside and do work. The society was a patriarchal in nature. Women had no right to work. They loose out to have any dream or aim in life.
They confined themselves within four walls. However time changed, women gradually all over the world started to fight for their rights whether social, political, or economic rights. Demand for the political rights started from the west gradually spread to all over west and took the shape of
economic rights also. Women are now becoming self independent and they now entering in number of professional services. They are also choosing very unconventional career options which were earlier were not supposed to be the job of women. They are now entering in careers like of electrician, cinematographer etc.
Times are surely changing. With more and more women stepping into such careers that were traditionally male oriented, the mental make-up of the society is fast changing. People are accepting
women in unconventional roles easily. Advices a career counselor, “When you decide to take up an unconventional job you have to be of strong character and full of determination. Even if the work is physically or intellectually challenging, you have to hang in there and prove your worth. The growth path in non-traditional careers is unpredictable. You have to prepare yourself mentally for the same.
Remember by choosing a path that is less travelled, you will open the doors to many others who perhaps lacked the courage to do so. That in itself is a big contribution.”
There is no denying the fact that there is a huge opportunity in pursuing a career away from the stereotyped ones. Of course, there may be some initial hurdles but once you cross them only the sky will be the limit for you.
Mountaineer is also such career which usually considered to be the area of men but there are women who made to this field also – BICHHENDRI PAL.
Sports activities were dominantly men area. As it had physical use much and men were considered physically superior to women they were not allowed to play sports like cricket, wrestling etc.
There are lots of women who made a remarkable journey in sports and inspired many other girls also to pursue their dream of sports. Some prominent figures are – Meerabai Chanu , PV Sindhu , Marry
Kom. Geeta Phogat is also a wrestler who belongs to a small village from Haryana. She broke all the stereotyopes and become the world champion in wrestling.
The history of Indian Women is full of pioneers who have broken the barriers whether they were social, political or economic. Right from the Vedic period to Modern India, Indian women have opted
to be sages and seers, warriors and queens, singers and artists, educationalists, and social workers.
Their indomitable spirits have encouraged them to go beyond their role of home making. They have been successfully chasing their dreams in such fields which were once purely-male dominated.
History was made again in 2019 when two female scientists from ISRO led the country’s second lunar mission Chandrayaan-II from its inception to completion. Another milestone was reached when the Supreme Court upended the Government’s position on women serving as army commanders in
2020.
India’s story on women’s adopting unconventional routes is incomplete without recognizing their role in politics. It is true that their number in politics is small in comparison to their counterparts.
May be they are small in number but their contribution is immense. Using their adult suffrage and as they are almost 50 per cent in India’s population, they have demonstrated their power to influence
important decisions time and again.
Be it PM’s or CM’s or Ministers position, their single-minded thought process and crystal clear decision-making power have made them popular and meaningful
human Dr Ritu Srivatsava, aka the ‘Rocket lady’, has been hailed as an incredible asset to ISRO and India. Her groundbreaking achievement in the form of the Chandrayaan-3 mission to the moon has garnered immense praise from netizens.
We’re living in an age where women are bringing home the gold.
Women have started creating history in fields which men once considered their divine birth-right. With a collective pledge to break the glass ceiling, they have taken to proving their worth and showing the world that for them, the orthodox limitations of the ‘kitchen’ has been replaced by an ocean of delightful possibilities. Today, a little girl is being taught that she can lead a school, a company, or even a government if she desires.
However, while women have largely taken to the primary branches of the professional world, there are still some unconventional professions which have, unfortunately, always been considered ‘male dominated’. But like I said, women are bringing home the gold. And much like everything else in life, they are prepared to throw stereotypes over the bridge and cause the beginning of a new era. Women are forming everlasting legacies in a plethora of undiscovered fields and profession.
